ʻUzType

Features

One program — eight features

Every UzType function serves one goal: Uzbek typing should be the most natural process, not extra work.

Below are all the key features of v0.1. Each answers a real user pain and has been tested independently.

Real-time typing correction

The core function. As you type, UzType watches every word and instantly corrects apostrophe letters. It happens in the blink of an eye — your typing speed is unaffected. Correction doesn’t disturb the cursor or break text selection — it just works there, like an invisible assistant. In settings you can grow the exceptions dictionary: special terms, names, abbreviations — the program remembers them and leaves them alone.

  • Works in any Windows program
  • Barely noticeable latency
  • Never disturbs cursor or selection

One-click text conversion

What about old texts? No need to retype them. Select the text, press the UzType button — the program finds every wrong apostrophe and replaces it with the correct ʻ (U+02BB). A hundred-page document is cleaned in seconds. Formatting — fonts, tables, lists — stays untouched. Before the process, the program shows how many replacements will be made — no surprises. If you want, confirm each replacement separately.

  • Large volumes in seconds
  • Formatting fully preserved
  • Affects only the selected part

Latin ↔ Cyrillic conversion

Uzbek lives in two alphabets — and UzType knows both. Convert Latin text to Cyrillic and back in one click. This isn’t mere letter swapping: apostrophe letters (oʻ, gʻ) map correctly, exceptions are respected. Conversion rules follow national standards: Ye, Yo, Yu, Ya map properly. The tone and style of the text are preserved.

  • Works both ways
  • oʻ and gʻ map correctly
  • Fast even on large texts

Unicode normalization

The problem isn’t just visual: computers treat different apostrophe characters as different things. That’s why search fails, sorting breaks, and texts don’t match each other. UzType brings every variant to a single correct standard — ʻ (U+02BB). Your texts finally “speak the same language”. This matters most in large teams: when everyone writes in one standard, documents fit together, and shared search and archiving work.

  • Single standard: ʻ (U+02BB)
  • Search and comparison work correctly
  • Clean text for databases

Local-first privacy

Many writing tools send every keystroke to a server. UzType doesn’t — all processing happens on your computer, in a local engine. No internet needed at all. Personal letters, work documents — never stored anywhere, never visible to anyone. The program also pulls updates minimally: only code, no analytics. If you want, manage updates manually.

  • 100% offline — no internet needed
  • No telemetry or tracking
  • Safe for corporate documents

Your keyboard stays untouched

UzType doesn’t replace your keyboard layout — it works on top of it. Your English (US) layout stays put: correction history is kept — if something was corrected wrongly, roll it back with one button. you write code, you write English emails — nothing changes. Two modes: Fast — auto-corrects everything; Hybrid — only steps in for clear-cut cases, leaving the rest to you. You can set a separate mode per application: for example, Hybrid in a code editor, Fast in a text editor. The program remembers your choice.

  • English (US) layout unchanged
  • Fast and Hybrid modes
  • Per-application settings

Leaves English words alone

A smart exception system recognizes English words and leaves them alone. The program analyzes context: is this an Uzbek word or an English one? It corrects only when confident. In doubtful cases it stays silent — better to skip than to “fix” wrongly. The exceptions dictionary is open: adding a new word is one click. Over time, the program adapts to your writing style.

  • Context analysis
  • Stays out of doubtful cases
  • Add your own exceptions

Light and fast

A native Rust program: under 50 MB installed, barely noticeable in memory, doesn’t heat the CPU. This isn’t “yet another heavy app” — it’s a small helper that works like part of the system. In the background it uses less than 30 MB of memory. Battery impact on laptops is barely noticeable — it works all day with ease.

  • < 50 MB install
  • Rust — native speed
  • Automatic updates

This is just the beginning

All of the above is v0.1. Upcoming versions bring browser extensions, macOS/Linux support and professional writing assistance. See the roadmap.
